What are Joint/Muscle Injections?
Joint and muscle injections are minimally invasive medical procedures where a healthcare professional injects medication or substances directly into the joint or muscle to reduce inflammation, pain, and improve function. Two types of injections that are commonly used for joint and muscle pain are PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and AGF+ (Autologous Growth Factor). Both PRP and AGF+ injections are used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and muscle strains.
How does it work?
PRP injections involve extracting blood from the patient and then isolating the platelet-rich plasma, which contains a high concentration of growth factors that stimulate tissue regeneration and healing. The PRP is then injected into the affected joint or muscle to reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair. AGF+ injections are similar to PRP injections in that they involve extracting blood from the patient and isolating growth factors. However, instead of using platelets, AGF+ extracts growth factors from the patient’s blood plasma and injects them into the affected joint or muscle to promote tissue repair and regeneration.

Candidates for Joint/Muscle Injections
It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine whether you are a candidate for PRP and AGF+ injections and to discuss the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives of these treatments. Potential candidates should consult with our healthcare professional, available every Wednesday at Elan Skin.
FAQs
What are the benefits of Joint/Muscle Injections?
Our Joint/Muscle injections are designed to promote healing because healing can only be done with growth factors. By introducing growth factors into the affected areas, it spurs the body to promote the healing process. By contrast, cortisone (or other pain killing shots) are just pain killers that are masking the injury.
What are the options?
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
In this instance, your blood is drawn, spun down and the PRP is extracted then injected into the desired area.
Joint AGF Plus
Advanced Growth Factors are already set to go, no lab draw necessary. Primary benefits here are efficacy (especially for a less healthy and/or older patient) and quicker procedure.
What happens after the shot?
No anti-inflammatories/NSAIDs should be taken for 6 weeks after the injection to maximize results. 3 days of rest immediately after with a slow ramp to full activity over the next 6 weeks. This shouldn’t impact daily activities and is meant for high stress, high pressure workouts/physical exertion.
